New Swimming Pool at holiday complex heated by Solar Thermal

A local holiday complex will soon benefit from a brand new swimming pool heated by the sun.  The pool which is located at North Farm Holiday cottages, Embleton, Northumberland will shortly be completed and available to guests of the luxury self catering accomodation.  The units are situated within the Northumberland Coast AONB, with views of the spectacular coast and Dunstanbugh Castle as you swim.

520 Kingspan HP400 tubes mounted on the SW facing roof will provide around 50 % of the annual heating load of the indoor pool.  This will dispace a considerable volume of LPG which otherwise would be needed to keep the pool warm for year round use.  Furthermore, the Non Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive will ensure a regular payment to the owner over the next 20 years, both paying for the installation and offsetting the other running costs of the pool.

A commercial swimming pool is an excellent match for solar thermal technology, and use on such a high profile site can only improve the visibility of the technology and show that the owners are keen to protect the environment for future generations to enjoy.

'Pride of Aln' Rowing Skiff launch

We are pleased to announce that the Alnmouth Bay Community Rowing Association Skiff  'Pride of Aln' will be launched at Alnmouth on 22nd November at 2.00pm by Her Grace, The Duchess of Northumberland.  Northumbria Renewables has been sponsoring this ambitious community project since it's early days.  The build phase is now almost complete and once launched, there will be opportunities for anyone wishing to row to become involved.  The Skiff is one of many based on the St Ayles design being built predominantly around the Scottish coast.  The aim of the project is to bring communities together to revive traditional skills of boat building and rowing and pass them on through practical involvement.

We wish the project well as it enters the rowing stage and look forward to further supporting it in years to come.

Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Launched

Ofgem have today launched the Domestic stream of the Renewable Heat Incentive.  This is excellent news for homeowners looking to install solar hot water heating systems.  From today, the owners of MCS Accredited solar thermal installations will receive a quarterly payment for all the renewable heat which they collect and use in the form of domestic hot water.

There has never been a better time to consider solar water heating.  Customers will receive 19.2 pence per kWh of energy generated, for a period of seven years once signed up to the scheme.  This will go quite a  way towards the installation cost of a solar thermal system.  The system of course will continue to produce free hot water for another 20 years or more and save the emission of many tonnes of carbon dioxide compared to a fossil fuel heating system.

MCS Accredited solar thermal systems which were installed after July 2009 (Legacy installations) are also eligible to apply for the scheme, but not until 9th July / 9th October if you received a RHPP payment.

For further details please contact Northumbria Renewables or visit the Ofgem website.

Solar Thermal accepted for RHI payments

A solar thermal hot water system installed earlier this year by Northumbria Renewables has been accepted for payments under the Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme.  The installation for the owner of a commercial holiday let has been fitted with a heat meter by ourselves and all heat generated by the solar array is now paid for at a rate of 8.9 pence per kWh (adjusted for inflation in line with the RPI) for the next 20 years.

The Renewable Heat Incentive will also be rolled out to cover domestic properties next summer so long as the installation is fitted by an MCS accredited company to MCS standards.
